Summer Program

Each summer 40 students earn their way to participate in the five-week Upward Bound Summer Component. Four of those weeks are spent taking college classes and the final week is enjoying a well-deserved vacationing trip.

Participants come to Snow College and take college level/credit classes taught by Snow College instructors including: Physics 1010, GNST 1010 (College Study Skills), Leadership, and PHED 1770 (Fit For Life).

Participants are able to live in apartments with other U.B. roommates and learn to shop for groceries, live within a budget (all resources provided by UBSC), and manage their time.  Learning these skills will help them have a college experience that will prepare them to succeed once they leave the program and enter into higher education.

Students are involved in evening activities that include sports, crafts, speakers, group sports, and field trips. There are study hall hours where Resident Assistants (RAs) will provide academic help.

All Upward Bound summer students are given passes to the Snow College Activity Center and have access to basketball, tennis, volleyball, and racquetball courts along with a swimming pool. Evening activities include: team sports, bowling, hiking, golf, and the ropes course.

The final vacationing trip allows our students to experience the larger world and seek out educational/cultural opportunities that might not be readily available to many of our participants.
